I love the tea kettle pic. It's my favorite so far, I think. I am always attracted to anyone who has the patience for tiny details like that. I get so frustrated trying to do that myself.
I love them all. You are so talented. I enjoy your blog so much.
So did you live in Brentwood when you were in MO? I remembered that you lived in St. Louis when I moved not far from there. I wondered what part, since I'm there so often.
like i said, the coolest part about doing these is the instant gratification of finishing them in one sitting and knowing it will ytouch someone's heart.
jodi-that's funny about you remembering the kitchen painting by papa. i think it was of geese. now that i think of it it does have a similar feel. i do remember thinking of him while i was working on the tree trunks, and the light filtering over the fence, especially at the back of the courtyard (my favorite parts). he always said, put some red in your painting to liven things up, even if it's in a fleck of light. that's a trick i feel translates best into the interior of a person's home. i haven't thought about papa's painting in awhile, although i did recently see it again when i visited my mom's apartment. ashley's mom was kind enough to put all of my mom's furniture in place while she was at work, and it is so cozy there, like your grandmother's attic.
thanks ashley-funny you like the kitchen one best, that's the one i'm most uncomfortable with (i did it too fast, and i went a little crazy with the sharpie, it's so easy to do).
btw, in the roses picture the roses were actually green!! they were in a vase at my tea-party shower, and one of the guests said they loved that color of green, so i thought it was a fitting tribute.
thanks, heddo- i did live in brentwood. alot of my family live in different parts of st. louis, where did you live?
michelle, thanks! i need to send you an email to catch up!
I live south of St. Louie just out of Cape Girardeau. I've been here for 13 years now. This is where my hubby is from. We go to STL a lot though. We love taking the kids to Grant's farm and the zoo and of course to see the beloved Cardinals play. That's also where we go for our assemblies and conventions. And with me being a shopoholic, I of course love the city and Brentwood is one of my favorite suburbs to shop. I have spent many hours in the Galleria.
oh the galleria. my first memories of adolescent malldom were there. the ultimate comforthit would have to be shopping and lunch at houlihan's, followed by a movie, and tippin's pie.
remember the mall jodi? remember the mary engelbreit shop (m.e. is from st. louis, you know- webster groves? i think we spent all of our money at the banana republic there.LOL
Yeah.... I miss Houlihan's. Quiche & potato soup. Ummmm! I love Mary still. I think I went thru' a "too country- ew!"-phase. But I think she's really inspired & something of her work will always speak to me. Do you ever get her magazine "Home Companion"? It's a treat.
i have gotten her magazine before. very interesting in a hyper-busy sort of way. i like the cottagy aspct, though. i like her originality in the way that i like illustrators maurice sendak and tasha tudor.

Wow I love the patio one! Makes me want to jump into it and recline in the shade, heh heh.

The garden scene reminds me of your Papa Nick's work (the one in your Mom's kitchen in Brentwood). Beautifully done!
