Haleen, my grandmother, says that the best time in life is when your children are small. For this reason I treasure these family bed moments. On the other hand I sometimes wonder, is it all downhill from here?

I'll have you know that I require four, sometimes five pillows to sleep at night and not wake upfeeling bruised, as if I had slept under a pile of logs. I do sometimes wake up under a pile of children, however.

It has been very difficult for me to get into the habit of taking my prenatal vitamins this time. A big reason is that they are so freakin huge! I thought I would get into the spirit of things by getting some really good, natural ones. I found some that said "minicaps" on the label. I thought, These are for me! When I got home I found out how many you have to take per day...NINE!!!

Gone is the wedding ring that I adore. It was a safety measure I assure you, as I would like to survive this pregnancy with all of my digits intact. Now I'm wearing my old standby preggie ring that I always switch to when my fingers swell. Also, it's fun to have something pretty on my growing piggie.

Now that I'm walking for two, panting up and down the sloping streets in my neighborhood, I find myself hiring alot more cars than I usually do. Is it wrong to take a car to avoid the 15 minute uphill hike to the movies? Add to that the experience I had the other night, when I was in a car with a driver who hardly spoke english, didn't understand mine, and drove me in circles for half an hour looking for Brooklyn Heights. He had never heard of it. It is about two neighborhoods over from mine, and a very common destination. He would not use his radio to ask for directions. I guess I'm going to have to start carrying a map so I can direct the drivers. Very strange.

i've been thinking about why i never blog anymore. i guess i just ran out of things to write.

recently i discovered Ayun Halliday's website www.ayunhalliday.com . Ayun is a writer and mother of two who lives in my neighborhood. she has written several books, one which i just finished called "The Big Rumpus" which is a very real and hilarious account of what it's like to be a stay-at-home mom in the city. read it! i so identify with her birth/parenting style, her love of city life, and the wit and compassion with which she cares for her two children, India and Milo (love that name!)

when she first became a parent she began publishing a small quarterly magazine or "zine" called the East Village Inky (named after her nickname for her daughter India) as a creative outlet , and a way to remain sane in the trenches of babyland (man can i relate) . in it i was suprised to find illustrations similar to the ones that i'm always drawing in my sketchbook. there's something about a fast sketch in pen and ink that is very immediate and satisfying. i love the feel of it, i love the look of it, however rudimentary my drawings are.

finally it came to me that i have much more to say visually than i do verbally about my world, and since i'm badly in need an artistic outlet anyway (use the term loosely), here's my new blog based on some random scribblings. hope you like it....
